Polder pumping station Horstermeer

Commissioned by Waternet, we replaced the complete electrical installation of the Horstermeer pumping station. This station is of critical importance to Waternet due to its near-continuous operation. On average, the station operates 16 hours a day with one pump, playing a key role in regional water management.

This was a large-scale project, due in part to its many technical aspects. For example, a BusBar system was installed from the low-voltage main distributor, directly connected to the energy provider’s transformer.

Reliability was a top priority. Waternet specifically requested a setup where the control of the pumps is completely independent, ensuring that if one pump fails, the other remains fully operational and reliable.

With three external area measurements in the polder, the station uses a PLC-based algorithm to determine the most optimal times to start operation. This allows for better response to fluctuating water levels and ensures smooth, near-continuous water level control across all sectors of the polder, preventing major variations.

The Horstermeer pumping station was our first project for Waternet. We delivered it to the full satisfaction of the client and look back on it with pride.
